Membership Meeting 2025: Reporting Back

We held a business meeting at the Annual Meeting of the Society for Classical Studies in Philadelphia in January and enjoyed great conversation about building a society that is driven by and serves its members. It was great to see new and familiar faces, in-person and in the Zoom room.

After having all those present introduce themselves, we unveiled the newly updated website. In addition to a history of the society and more streamlined menus, the updated website offers  a new way for  for members to get involved with programming.

We talked about how to build community online, how to connect Eos to groups active on our campuses and in our communities around the globe, and how to work together beyond the university. Members also made clear that it would be useful to have more intermittent occasions to support one another, especially as challenges to the study of race mount and the university continues to change shape. In addition to a variety of skills that we can teach other through the PROS programming stream, we have or can collaborate on a variety of countermeasures that ensure our safety and well-being. We look forward to helping members bring their ideas to fruition and to those opportunities to strengthen the Africana receptions community.

Keep an eye out for two annual emails. In May, we will ask for updates about your new dissertations, publications, and projects in Africana receptions of ancient Greece and Rome, so we can share the titles with Eos members. In September, we will ask you to submit your ideas for Eos programs for the coming year. Can’t wait until September? Click on Participate at the top of our webpage and pitch your idea any time.
